One of the oldest inhabitants of the Earth, mold fungus, is still currently remaining “the main enemy” for many wooden construction materials. Penetrating into the planking, the fungus affects the cellulose, painting it unpleasant colour, and destroying it. We in Specta suggest preventing mold right after the sawing, or at the packaging stage.
Why mold is dangerous
It can be very difficult to overcome the all-penetrating fungus, and, very often, impossible. Wood affected by mold and painted blue-grey or brown, not only loses its esthetic properties, but also deteriorates. Soaking even through the paint coating, the mold corrodes the planking on the inside, creating some kind of channels, through which water can easily penetrate. And wet wood, in turn, becomes unfit for further use, it swells, crumbles and breaks rapidly. One microscopic spore can destroy the whole batch of the valuable cargo!
To prevent spread of dangerous fungi, we in Specta recommend to treat saw-timber with antiseptic Sinesto®. This trade mark made a great showing in more than 20 countries worldwide, and now it is on the top position in Europe, among the agents which protect wood.
Sinesto® begins to effect at the deep level: penetrating into the wood, its components begin to connect with the cellular tissue. As a result of this deep effect, even after the surface was dehydrated, the protective agent remains inside the wood. Due to this unique property, Sinesto® is not washed off the surface of the wood either by snow or by rain. And it means that, during the transportation of the saw-timber in the open wagons, they will have immunity to the environment exposure.
If, during the storage, your materials are more often affected by fungus of brown, white or soft mold, we recommend to treat your wood with Wolmanit® SH-8. The inhibitor specially worked out for these kinds of microorganisms, is especially effective in vacuum impregnation of wood under pressure.
Effectiveness of Sinesto® protection can be proved in a simple experiment: two packs of newly-sawed planking are packed in polyfilm to create greenhouse effect and placed into thermic camera. Inside the camera, there are conditions ideal for mold formation — 100% humidity and temperature of 35°. One of the packs is treated with Sinesto®, and the other is not, and they are left in the camera for a long time.
What happened in a few days? Already on the second day, the unprotected wood turned blue, but in the pack with Sinesto®, there was no mold during four months!
Antiseptics: how and when to start?
Our specialists recommend to treat wood with antiseptic right after the sawing — it will prevent appearance of the blue rot before its treatment. But if it has not been done, Sinesto® provides the saw-timber protection at other stages: after the sawing, before packaging, or after technical dehydration. Depending on the conditions, which your products will get, you should select the necessary solution concentration.
You can use Sinesto® in two methods: deepening the wood in the solution, or spraying on the surface in special camera. The treatment duration depends on the nature of your products — for example, on the structure of saw-timber stacks. If a pack with wood is not very compact, deepening in 5-8% solution only for one minute is enough!
Treatment of materials in spray-type camera also does not take a lot of time: newly-sawn planking gets to the camera by means of conveyer belt before the transportation and stacking, and is treated with the solution within the time indicated.
As for Wolmanit® SH-8, it can be applied only in vacuum impregnation — this method guarantees protection not only from spores, but also from insects. As a result of the impregnation under pressure, the protective salt penetrates inside the wood fibers and ensures reliable protection. Absence of chromium and arsenic in the composition allows to use such wood for terraces and balconies, garden furniture and playgrounds.
To inhale or not to inhale?
Any manufacturer is concerned with the question of safety of the antiseptic for the environment? In the course of its action, Sinesto® does not emit harmful gasses and fumes, which means it is safe for humans.
Saw-timber treated with Sinesto® can be safely used for food packaging, storage of fruit and vegetables, and applied for finishing living quarters. The treated wood is also harmless for animals.
Sinesto® can be recycled as domestic waste — all the active components decompose under the exposure of soil microorganisms. The residue of the solution can be burnt or used for compost preparation. Use of Sinesto® will help any enterprise reduce its environmental influence and contribute to environmental protection.
