Tatarstan President meets with Finnish Ambassador to Russia

On 15th November, in the Kazan Kremlin, a meeting was held between the President of Tatarstan, Mr Rustam Minnikhanov, and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Finland to Russia, Mr Mikko Hautala. Among the Finnish delegation were 26 business leaders, as well as officials. The delegation included the Vice-President of Specta AG, Mr Teppo Viherkoski.

The program of the visit included a business forum, during which the two sides discussed different aspects of cooperation; the launch of the Days of Finnish Culture; and development of joint actions.

Mr Minnikhanov offered his congratulations to His Excellency the Ambassador and to all the Finnish people on the upcoming 100th anniversary of Suomi’s independence, as well as the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty on the Foundations of Relations between Russia and Finland. Mr Minnikhanov said in his welcoming address: “Despite the difficult external political situation, the Presidents of our countries continue to hold regular meetings, securing the possibility of developing relations between the two nations at regional level. I’m sure that the tense situation that does not benefit either Europe or Russia will resolve itself in the near future.”

“Although today there are a number of Finnish businesses operating successfully in our Republic, Tatarstan is striving for further development, and would like to see even more Finnish companies setting up in this region. There is everything needed for that – an infrastructure, well-developed logistics, and resources.”

“We are very glad that, despite the difficult situation in the world, Russia and Finland have maintained relations,” Mikko Hautala said in his turn.
According to him, Finland intends to maintain and develop this trend. “We at the Embassy have chosen a strategy whereby we’ll be actively working with those regions of Russia that have the greatest potential. Tatarstan is among them,” the Ambassador emphasized.

Representatives of the Finnish business community gave short presentations at the meeting. In his speech, Mr Teppo Viherkoski spoke about how Specta was building its business in Russia and in Tatarstan in particular, about investments in local production of packaging materials, plans for the future, problems to be addressed, such as recycling plastic bottles and converting them into raw material to manufacture polyester packaging straps, etc. The Tatarstan President, in his turn, instructed the relevant Ministry to pay close attention to issues of recycling waste into valuable raw material.
The Tatarstan President went on to invite the Finnish Ambassador and all others interested to the Republic to attend the upcoming world championships in Kazan – FIFA World Cup 2018 and WorldSkills 2019.
